چکیده

In sensory data fusion and integration consideration, sensor independence i s a common assumption. In this paper, we demonstrated the impact of including dependent information in sensory data combination process. The team consensus approach based on information entropy can improve the measurement accuracy remarkably. The major benefits of the approach are (a) the simple linear combination of the weighted initial local estimates for each sensor; and (b) the low order bivariate likelihood functions which can be represented easily. A comparison of the team consensus approach with the Bayesian approach is presented.

Toward Global Visual Servos and Estimators for Rigid Bodies

We describe work-in-progress toward a nonlinear image-based rigid body dynamic triangulator which we believe tracks a moving target from "essentially all" initial conditions (all initial conditions except a set of measure zero). The dynamic triangulator depends on the goal state only through its image plane position and velocity and requires a navigation function, imposed directly upon image fe...

Design of a Partitioned Visual Feedback Controller - Robotics and Automation, 1998. Proceedings. 1998 IEEE International Conference on

Image-based servoing systems are often used to track moving targets and their underlying control architecture is a regulation of the image. This regulation is a function of rigid camera-to-target geometric constraints. Satisfying such constraints requires that the robot motors have suf ic ient velocity bandwidths, and often these bandwidths are limited. This p a p e r days down the foundation f...

Position-Based Virtual Fixtures for Membrane Peeling with a Handheld Micromanipulator.

Peeling delicate retinal membranes, which are often less than 5 µm thick, is one of the most challenging retinal surgeries. Preventing rips and tears caused by tremor and excessive force can decrease injury and reduce the need for follow up surgeries. We propose the use of a fully handheld microsurgical robot to suppress tremor while enforcing helpful constraints on the motion of the tool. Usin...

An evidential approach to map-building for autonomous vehicles

In this work, we examine the problem of constructing and maintaining a map of an autonomous vehicle’s environment for the purpose of navigation, using evidential reasoning. The inherent uncertainty in the origin of measurements of sensors demands a probabilistic approach to processing, or fusing, the new sensory information to build an accurate map. In this paper, the map is based on a two-dime...
